Two numbered Air Forces got new two-star commanders in change-of-command ceremonies on Aug. 29.
Maj. Gen. Andrea Tullos became the newest commander of 2nd Air Force in an Aug. 29 ceremony at Keesler AFB, Miss.
Tullos’ previous posts include commanding the 42nd Air Base Wing at Maxwell AFB, Ala., directing Air Force security forces, and working as the service’s deputy chief of staff for logistics, engineering, and force protection, according to a release. Tullos took over from Maj. Gen. Timothy Leahy, who will retire Dec. 1. Second AF oversees basic military training and technical training for most of the service.
"I’m both humbled and inspired to lead an organization responsible for setting the Air Force’s foundation for training and education, for instilling our core values into every student and for leading, inspiring and developing experts in the art and science of airpower who are prepared to meet the challenges our nation faces,” Tullos said in the release.
Maj. Gen. Timothy Haugh took command of 25th Air Force during an Aug. 29 ceremony at JB San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. The organization oversees the service’s intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, electronic warfare, and cryptology resources.
Haugh assumes command from Maj. Gen. Mary O’Brien, who was recently confirmed to be the Air Force’s next deputy chief of staff for ISR and cyber effects operations.
“We are engaged in power competition with adversaries in all domains today; intelligence is the fuel that commanders require to maneuver in response,” Haugh said at the ceremony, according to a release. “We will expect positive, innovative leadership at all levels. We will invest in our people, train them well, allow them to excel.”
Haugh was previously the commander of the Cyber National Mission Force at Fort Meade, Md., and before that was US Cyber Command’s intelligence director. He takes over 25AF as it prepares to merge with 24th Air Force to create a new organization focused on information warfare.
