The House Armed Services Committee released a lengthy set of declassified transcripts on Jan. 13 examining the US military’s response to the Sept. 11, 2012, terrorist attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. The release comes in advance of the panel’s expected report later this week. The transcripts include official statements from US Africa Command officials; Air Force Maj. Gen. Darryl Roberson, vice director of operations on the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and other senior officials, regarding the disposition of forces in the Mediterranean Sea, preparations for terrorist attacks in the region, and the response of forces on the night of the attack. The briefings were conducted by the HASC oversight and investigations panel between May and October last year. The final hearing, conducted Oct. 10, 2013, featured Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Army Gen. Martin Dempsey.
