The US Postal Service has issued a new stamp dedicated to a World War II pilot who also happened to be a major Hollywood star—Jimmy Stewart. The actor had already received his first Oscar for the 1940 movie The Philadelphia Story when he joined the Army Air Forces. He flew the B-24 bomber on 20 combat missions over Germany, receiving numerous decorations. He continued to serve in the Air Force Reserve, retiring as a brigadier general.
As Air Force leaders consider concepts of operations for Collaborative Combat Aircraft, sustainment in the field—and easing that support by using standard parts and limiting variants—should be a key consideration, according to a new study from AFA's Mitchell Institute of Aerospace Studies.
