Air Education and Training Command’s Laughlin Air Force Base, has received its first of 15 T-38s from Moody AFB, Ga., starting the undergraduate pilot training base in west Texas on its new mission of providing Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals training. Laughlin also will gain about 180 airmen and civilian personnel and expand its instruction facilities to accommodate the eight-week IFF course mission.
Airmen basic rarely go on to become four-star generals, but one who did retired last week after a 42 year career that saw him rise from a lowly slick-sleeve to the head of one of the Air Force’s most important major commands.
