With an Eye Toward Preserving Charleston: Local governments near Charleston AFB, S.C., are taking another look at the land around the base and the nearby Naval Weapons Station to make certain community plans for growth don’t lead to problems for the military installations. (BRAC 2005 was hailed as the last gasp for closure, but there are some who say the fat lady has not sung.) According to the Charleston Post and Courier, a new study, supervised by a Charleston-area government coalition, will update a 1993 study done by the Air Force.
The rate of building B-21 bombers would speed up if the fiscal 2026 defense budget passes. But it remains unclear how much capacity would be added, and whether the Air Force would simply build the bombers faster, or buy more.
