The Department of Defense, with the largest computer network in the world, faces an accelerating arms race with malicious computer hackers, says Army Col. Carl W. Hunt. Hunt, speaking to reporters, said cyberwar has already threatened the security of DOD systems. Tom Kellermann of Cybrinth, LLC. told the group that 56 million Americans have suffered “identity theft.” Of all attacks, he said, foreign hackers account for 80 percent. Hunt and Kellermann emphasized the need to develop “self-healing” and “self-maintaining” computers about to monitor all attacks.
