According to Brig. Gen. Dana Born, the US Air Force Academy is in the midst of a plan that will bring “the most sweeping change in the academy’s 50-year history.” Called the Officer Development System, its intent is “to build officers of character in an incremental fashion by giving each cadet increasing leadership responsibilities,” said Born, who is the academy’s first woman dean of faculty. At the “heart” of the ODS model, she said, is “integrity and mutual respect.”
The Air Force has tapped sites in Oregon to build its first two new Over-the-Horizon Radars, capable of detecting inbound missile threats from up to 4,000 nautical miles away. The service is hoping to start construction by the end of 2028.
