Boeing recently announced plans to use the Melrose Bombing Range in New Mexico for unmanned aerial vehicle training flights, but the Portales (N.M.) News-Tribune reports the announcement is unrelated to the search for a new mission for nearby Cannon Air Force Base. That means don’t throw out the Air Force-prepared prospectus—the mission search continues.
The last remaining T-1 Jayhawk at JBSA-Randolph, Texas, took its final flight to the "Boneyard" at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., on July 15. The 99th Flying Training Squadron will train pilots using T-6 and simulator until it gets T-7 Red Hawk in fiscal 2026.
