Bill Told the Ladies Home Journal that Iraq is a “Quagmire”: Former President Bill Clinton said that Iraq “looks like a quagmire” and that “the odds are not great of our prevailing there.” Now, he did explain to LHJ that comparisons between the situation in Iraq and Vietnam are erroneous. For one thing, he said, the high turnout of voters in Iraq lent legitimacy to the fledgling government; the South Vietnamese government was “never legitimate” in the eyes and perceptions of most Vietnamese.
