The Air Force awarded the team building the new Kaiserslautern Military Community Center the Air Force 2006 Design Award for outstanding concepts. The KMCC will be the first facility of its kind build by the military as a combined eight-story living facility and shopping center, complete with an environmentally friendly green roof, glass domes, and other amenities. German firm Landesbetrieb Liegenschafts-und Baubetreuung (LBB) Kaiserslautern received the initial design concepts from US Air Forces in Europe and the 435th Airlift Wing at Ramstein AB, Germany. LBB then contracted with JSK Internqationale Architekten und Ingenieure GmbH to design the renderings that won the award.
The Air Force is launching an effort to develop a new stand-off missile with a range of 1,000 nautical miles, or 1,150 miles, that would eventually be used for both air-to-air and air-to-surface missions.
