The Air Force has tapped Barksdale AFB, La., and McGuire AFB, N.J., to serve as test bases for an energy initiatives pilot program. According to a USAF release, the base’s geographic locations and facilities made them ideal candidates. The service plans to “find the very best energy practices and test them” at the two bases, then migrate the ones that work to the rest of the Air Force.
Anduril and General Atomics will develop their Collaborative Combat Aircraft for the Air Force, beating out Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman, the service announced on April 24. But any of the non-selected companies can compete to actually manufacture the eventual design the Air Force said.
