Its three spires steadily rising, construction on the new Air Force Memorial continues toward an October completion date. Recently, Air Force Memorial Foundation President retired Maj. Gen. Edward Grillo Jr. guided some young airmen from Bolling AFB, D.C., through the construction site. One offered this comment: The memorial “pretty much rocks.”
The Air Force is spending heavily on F-22 improvements through the end of the decade, suggesting it may not retire the jet in 2030 as it previously planned. New sensors, fuel tanks, communications, and electronic warfare systems are among the upgrades that comprise the package.
