DOD and VA officials announced Jan. 24 that the two departments plan to develop a common inpatient electronic health record system. Up until now, each has used separate systems. Such accessibility to inpatient medical records would enable clinicians to offer better, and faster, diagnoses and treatment of patients, according to a VA release.
While the Pentagon has signaled its intent to scale technology, field new systems faster, and work more with nontraditional vendors, a new report identifies persistent manufacturing capacity, resourcing, workforce, and modernization challenges that could hinder its ability to deliver on those goals.
