Construction company workers digging a trench for a water pipeline in North Monterey County in California came across a piece of wreckage believed to be that of a military aircraft from the 1940s. The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports that the Pajaro Valley Water Management Agency called on Travis Air Force Base for help investigating the site. Capt. Vanessa Hill told reporters that so far they had found no obvious markings on the wreckage.
The Air Force has embraced new technical approaches like open mission systems and rapid software updates for cutting-edge aircraft like the B-21 and Collaborative Combat Aircraft. Increasingly, though, the service is also working to apply these to its older, “legacy” aircraft, officials said this week.
