The Bush Administration has been talking with officials in Poland about stationing a missile defense site in Poland to defend Europe against long-range ballistic missiles. Poland, however, is not exactly jumping at the chance to be first in Europe to host a missile defense facility. New Polish President Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz has said he wants to hold a public debate.
U.S. Southern Command recently announced its first lethal strike on a suspected narco-trafficking vessel in two months, and the first under a newly formed permanent counter-cartel task force. The U.S. is also reportedly planning to transfer MQ-9 drones to Colombia to bolster its counter-cartel efforts.
