It didn’t take the media long to start yapping at President Bush’s nominee to become the next Secretary of the Air Force, Michael W. Wynne. Most outlets rushed to report that Wynne, who has been a senior Pentagon official for the past four years, had a role in the failed Air Force tanker lease proposal and had been singled out by the Pentagon IG for “responsibility,” if not outright blame. As our John Tirpak pointed out in this story, the case against Wynne and three other defense officials was eye-wateringly weak.
Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall, on the verge of leaving the Pentagon, said he would accelerate production of the B-21 bomber if there was money to do so. But even so, it couldn’t happen right away, he said in an interview with Air & Space Forces Magazine.
