A brief from the Center for Security Policy would change the name “Global War on Terror” to the “War for the Free World.” Why, you ask? Because the war is not going well at the moment, the Washington think tank hypothesizes the name change would illustrate the moral clarity that Americans and other democracies need to sustain the heavy costs of war. Quoting the brief: “Today, as in the past, we need to fight as though our lives, fortunes and freedom depend on it, for indeed they do. We need to put the country on a true war footing in which every American can and must be asked to play a part in order to preserve the Free World.”
The Air Force has embraced new technical approaches like open mission systems and rapid software updates for cutting-edge aircraft like the B-21 and Collaborative Combat Aircraft. Increasingly, though, the service is also working to apply these to its older, “legacy” aircraft, officials said this week.
