Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne earlier this week confirmed his announcement that the provisional headquarters for Cyber Command would stand up at Barksdale AFB, La. However, the final location for the new major command, whose shorthand moniker will be AFCYBER (P), is still a question mark. When Wynne mentioned last week the provisional standup location, Louisiana officials took that as a sign they had won the race over rivals California, Nebraska, Texas, and Virginia. The Air Force plans to install a major general to head the interim command. There is no word yet on the rank for the ultimate boss of Cyber Command.
The Air Force wants to pump more than $12 billion over the next five years into its new affordable long-range missiles program and recently asked industry to push the flights of some of those munitions beyond 1,200 miles.
