The Air Force has confirmed a series of general officer moves it hopes to make, but about which the Pentagon hasn’t issued the usual public announcement. The Senate late last week received three nomination requests: Gen. Duncan McNabb, currently head of Air Mobility Command, to become the Air Force vice chief of staff; Gen. John D.W. Corley, current vice chief, to become head of Air Combat Command, replacing retiring Gen. Ronald Keys; and Lt. Gen. Arthur J. Lichte, currently assistant vice chief, to be commander of AMC. The Air Force has announced, just yesterday, nomination of Lt. Gen. Frank G. Klotz, vice commander of Air Force Space Command, to replace Lichte as assistant vice chief.
A new report from the Government Accountability Office calls for the Pentagon’s Chief Technology Officer to have budget certification authority over the military services’ research and development accounts—a move the services say would add a burdensome and unnecessary layer of bureaucracy.
